Real Estate Club Career Fair Brings Together Students and Employers

by Charlotte Du Thursday, February 22, 2018

Career Fair 2018-1On February 12, over 200 students attended the 18th annual Real Estate Career Fair. The Real Estate Club, one of UW-Madison’s largest student-run organizations, hosted the event at Union South, attracting a record number of 60 employers from all over the country. During the two-hour fair, students leveraged their classroom knowledge when communicating with industry employers, in hopes of securing an internship or full-time position in the coming months.

This year, MBA students were in for a special treat, with one hour of speed networking with firms that expressed interest in meeting MBA candidates. After the one-hour speed networking, dinner was served, giving all students the opportunity to network with employers and ask questions prior to visiting Career Fair 2018-2their booth at the fair. Students and employers also had the option to continue their conversations during the informal closing reception.  Faculty Advisor Sharon McCabe was pleased with the result, saying, “The fair was very successful. Companies enjoyed meeting our great students, and I’m sure many students got leads for internships and jobs.”

Every sector of the real estate industry was represented, from asset management and brokerage, to development and lending, current students had an opportunity to engage with and explore companies through their representatives. Hans Helland, a first-year real estate MBA student, reflected on the experience, “It was a great experience talking to companies at the career fair. All of them were there because of the strong reputation of the program at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.”

Career Fair 2018-3The career fair was executed by the Wisconsin Real Estate Club and spearheaded by fair coordinators Nick Mussatti, Josh Kim, and Josh Graph. They contacted more than 1,400 people throughout the year, which facilitated more than 50 job postings, even before the fair. Their efforts provided hundreds of real estate students a well-structured and career catalyzing event. The students would also like to give special thanks to the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association, the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate, and countless alumni out in the field.
