This month, UW MBA students were offered a break from ICA preparation and finals with a visit from Aaron S. Williams of RTI International, Executive Vice President of Government Relations and Corporate Communications, as part of the M. Keith Weikel MBA Leadership Speaker Series. These series offer an opportunity not only for full-time MBA students to connect with their evening but to connect and to be inspired from business leaders and alumni.
Mr. Williams spoke about his fascinating career and his experience as a UW Business Badger in the public and private sectors. When asked about leadership, he said the most important trait that sets apart a great leader from a good leader is superb listening skills. He also added the best leaders often have a unique vision and, in his words, “walk the talk” in setting an example with their actions and not only words.
Mr. Williams also spoke of his experience in the consortium and the difference it has made in his career. As a founding member of the consortium, the Wisconsin School of Business has been committed to enhancing diversity and inclusion in global business education and leadership since 1966. It is certainly inspiring to see the difference the Consortium has made in the world through leaders such as Mr. Williams. Even though I am not a member of the Consortium, I can grateful for what the Consortium students bring to the Wisconsin MBA and our classrooms. I know I am better prepared for my future career not only from my business studies but also from the stories and diverse experiences shared with my classmates and friends of different backgrounds.
