How to Find your Ideal Business School

by Delaney Pichotta Tuesday, August 28, 2018

As prospective students start looking into business school, many are overwhelmed at where to begin. One essential aspect to focus on when deciding your ideal MBA program is finding the program with the right fit.  But what does that mean and how do you know when you’ve found the program with the right fit?  To help you answer that question, the admissions team offers guidance for finding the program that will give you the future you want.

The first step to find the MBA program with your ideal fit is to define what “fit” means to you.  Brainstorm the factors that are most important to you when choosing a program.  For example, is location a key aspect in your business school decision?  Do you thrive in a certain type of learning environment?  Are you hoping for a specific job outcome?  How important to you are network connections with alumni, faculty, and industry professionals?  Once you have your list of key factors, you can move onto the next step in determining your ideal fit.

After you have decided on your definition of the right fit, it is time to remind yourself of your personal and professional goals.  Are you looking to completely change industries or just move up in the organization where you are currently employed?  Do you want opportunities to expand your leadership skills?  If there is a specific direction in which you want to take your career after graduation, you need to pinpoint business schools that will help guide you to that career outcome.

Finally, it is essential that you network while finding your ideal MBA program.  Many programs, including the Wisconsin MBA program, offer the opportunity to visit campus.  Taking advantage of these campus visits is a great way to learn more about the program while networking with current students and members of the admissions team.  You might also look into connecting with alumni or faculty of the program to get the inside scoop on the program’s culture.  The more network connections you make, the more well informed your decision will be on where to attend business school.

Once you’ve gathered all the information you need, it’s time to go with your gut and make your final decision.  As long as you do your research and make an informed choice, you will be successful in choosing the right business school for you.
