3 Application Tips: Work Experience Requirement

by Jacquelyn Caldwell Tuesday, August 29, 2017

As prospective students prepare their application for submission, questions can arise about the work experience requirement. Here are three tips from the admissions committee to help you navigate application requirements that focus on your work experience.

  1. To be competitive, have post undergraduate work experience. The Wisconsin MBA Admissions Team looks for candidates with a minimum of two years of work experience by the time they start the program. This allows you to explore your interests and identify how an MBA can be impactful to your career.
  2. Your work experience is your choice. Post-undergraduate work experience does not have to be in a specific industry or with a certain company.  Rather, the Admissions Team wants to see that you have shown leadership in your position and have progressed throughout your time at an organization.
  3. Let your resume tell a story.  The Admissions Team looks for a one-page resume that shares your accomplishments and impact on an organization. Use a resume format that is easy to follow, and keep the document clear and concise.  Although there is no required format for the application process, you are welcome to use the format utilized by our current MBA students, which is located on our website. You can also review a resume guide put together by the Wisconsin MBA Career Management Center.
