5 Reasons Why You Should Attend On, Wisconsin! Weekend

by Brandon Shields Wednesday, April 6, 2016

On, Wisconsin! Weekend is a great opportunity to get to meet your future classmates and experience what it will be like on campus as part of the Wisconsin MBA Program. From April 14th to April 16th, admitted students participate in a case study, networking events, student panels and many other events that will help determine whether or not the Wisconsin MBA is the right fit.  Here are 5 reasons why you should consider attending:

1)      You have already applied, and been accepted to, business school, but you’re second guessing whether or not this is the right decision.

Having more information at your fingertips will help finalize your decision-making.  At On, Wisconsin! Weekend, you will meet current students, who have already made the decision to go back to school, and like-minded individuals, with whom you are sharing this experience. You’ll come to see that the skills learned in an MBA program are essential for success in today’s business environment, and by the end of the weekend, there will be little doubt as to whether or not you still want to pursue an MBA.

2)      You want to confirm that the Wisconsin School of Business is the best fit for you.

Choosing where to pursue your MBA is a big decision.  It’s to your benefit to get all the information you can before making your final decision, and On, Wisconsin! Weekend helps you get a taste of life as a Wisconsin MBA student. The weekend is structured to allow you to experience what the classes will be like, meet the faculty you’ll learn from, and the people who will become your Business Badger Family. And if you’re thinking about future career possibilities, companies from all across the country, both large and small, recruit Wisconsin MBAs to join their organizations for internships and full time, and they are continually impressed with the level of knowledge Wisconsin students possess by the time they graduate from the program.

3)      You’ve never visited Madison, Wisconsin before.

I used to think that Wisconsin was just another Midwestern state you fly over on the way to California.  I was quickly slapped out of my naiveté when I participated in On, Wisconsin! Weekend in the spring of 2015.  Madison is a lively and vibrant city, thriving with hip neighborhoods full of young professionals. UW may be one of the most reputable Big Ten schools in the nation, but the Badger community extends farther, with over 40 thousand alumni in 50 countries around the world!

The university’s reputation, along with its location in the political heart of Wisconsin, brings Broadway theatre productions, popular musicians, exciting sporting events, and courageous new restaurants to the Madison area.

4)      You want to know how going to business school, and moving to Wisconsin, will impact your family.

Once you spend time with the people that make up the Wisconsin MBA Program, you will realize that this is a very family-friendly environment.  In fact, your classmates become part of your family.

I am the current Co-President of the Joint Venture Club, and our mission is “to provide support for the students of the Graduate School of Business and their spouses, significant others, partners, and/or children, who are an integral part of the students’ experience in Madison.” Now, how’s that for taking care of the family!

5)      You want to meet the people who will be your future peers, colleagues and friends.

Attending a preview weekend is a great chance to spark friendships and network before school starts in the fall.  Meeting the people who may be your future classmates can potentially help in making your final decision on where to attend school. I met many of my classmates at last year’s event, and I’m thrilled to say that they are some of my closest friends today!

On, Wisconsin! Weekend starts Thursday, April 14th at 6:30pm with a welcome reception.  I look forward to seeing you on campus!
