In 2013 I had the pleasure of attending MBAs On, Wisconsin! Weekend as a prospective student. It was my first time back to the Wisconsin School of Business after visiting as a prospective student, and I remember being both excited and nervous about the weekend. This was a great opportunity to mix and mingle with members of the Class of 2015, as well as get an overview of student life, academic and professional opportunities and housing in Madison.
Now, as a second year MBA, I will be serving on the committee for the second year in a row – and we are very excited about the event! Not only is this a phenomenal opportunity for admitted students to get a taste of life as a Wisconsin MBA, the event provides additional programming for those admitted students who are members of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. The Consortium is an organization that is committed to increasing opportunities for historically underrepresented populations in business. As a founding member of the organization in 1966, the Wisconsin School of Business has been committed to this mission through its support of the fellowship. This will be our second year combining MBAs On, Wisconsin! Weekend with a Boot Camp which prepares these admitted students for early recruitment opportunities. With that said, the event is sure to deliver on its usual excitement for the entire Class of 2017!
The weekend begins on Thursday, April 16th with the official On, Wisconsin! Weekend Welcome Reception. This offers a great opportunity for incoming students to mix and mingle with current students and staff. It’s followed by the Annual Arts Showcase, which is organized by the Artful Business Collective, one of our many student organizations. This is essentially an MBA talent show and you will be amazed, as I was, at the amount of artistic talent contained within the program. Thursday concludes with an opportunity for students to join the Full-Time MBA’s at our weekly social event called Thursdays After Professional Studies, or more lovingly referred to as TAPS, which will be at a local bar in Madison. The following day is jam-packed and will include an opportunity to engage in a Case Study, go on a housing tour of Madison, meet with specialization staff, discuss career management opportunities, as well as meet with current students to learn a bit more about student organizations and how to get involved. The weekend concludes with our Annual Spring Ball, which all prospective students are invited to attend with a significant other.
When I attended MBAs On, Wisconsin! Weekend in 2013, I had no idea the amount of work that goes into it. Now I know, however, that it is just as rewarding for the planning committee as it is for attendees. Every student and staff member on the team truly enjoys being here and our way of giving back is to ensure that all those considering the Wisconsin MBA get all of their questions answered and have a great time while they are here. The choice to go back to school full-time is one that I considered for a long time, and current students understand the sacrifice one has to make to fully commit to it. Here at the Wisconsin MBA, our goal is to make sure all admitted students have their questions answered so they are fully informed and make the right decision based on program fit. We believe that decision is the Wisconsin MBA, and MBA’s On, Wisconsin! Weekend is another opportunity for us to show each student exactly why! We look forward to seeing all admitted students on campus this spring for an amazing weekend!
