The Wisconsin School of Business and UW–Madison’s General Library System are excited to announce the creation of a new Learning Commons within Grainger Hall. The collaborative project will renovate nearly 35,000 square feet of Grainger Hall and unify the Huber Computer Lab with the two floors of the Business Library into one cohesive commons. Construction began in Fall 2017 and is scheduled to finish in Spring 2018. The project will connect the School’s west and east wings, which were completed in 1993 and 2008, respectively. The Learning Commons will create a visible heart for the building and bring together the two wings of Grainger Hall, both visually and programmatically.
The project underscores Wisconsin School of Business’s commitment to educational innovation. The Learning Commons will be a locale for making, doing, producing, and innovating—a vibrant place for students to collaborate, exchange ideas, and dream big. The exterior of Grainger Hall will remain unchanged while the inside will be opened up and transformed by the intentional use of natural light and glass with the Wisconsin School of Business brand, Together Forward, integrated throughout and the creation of spaces that facilitate active learning and collaboration.
