Blair Sanford, Assistant Dean of Full-Time MBA Program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Business
MBA blog Poets & Quants asked Blair Sanford, assistant dean of the Full-Time MBA Program at the Wisconsin School of Business, and Tosan Olley (MBA ’15) to give advice to business school students on how to maximize the value of their summer internships.
In the article “Getting More From A Summer Internship: Advice From Recruiters & Graduates,” Sanford encourages students to do the job they were hired to do, focus on expectations and deliverables, do a great job, and find a mentor.
Olley recommends that students use the internship position to build networks by asking key questions to decision-makers in the organization. “In each interview, make sure you ask what they do and what they enjoy about their jobs,” says Olley. “It gives them an opportunity to talk about themselves, but gives them the opportunity to speak to you about a topic that isn’t assignment specific.”
