Students Dunk the Dean in Annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics

by Staff Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Wisconsin School of Business students, faculty and staff threw caution to the wind as they hurled themselves into the icy waters of Madison’s Lake Monona.

With undergraduate and MBA student teams reaching a combined participation goal of 220 jumpers and nearly $30,000 in donations, BBA student leaders were able to dunk Albert O. Nicholas Dean François Ortalo-Magné. Wearing a suit and Wisconsin tie, Dean Ortalo-Magné was pushed into the lake.

Other students participated in teams representing Mu Kappa Tau (undergraduate marketing fraternity), BBA Gov, the Wisconsin Finance and Investment Club, and Delta Sigma Pi.

The business school’s MBA team set a new record, raising $20,012 — $1,171 more than last year with the help of 79 plunge participants. MBA jumpers splashed out with special outfits for the occasion including head-to-toe neon and Care Bears, Vikings, and Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox costumes.
