Wisconsin School of Business

Amanda Kenny

Senior Lecturer - General Business

I teach Business Communication in the BBA program and serve as the faculty advisor for the b.Line.

I graduated Cum Laude from the Colorado College in 1996, received a Master’s from Marquette University in 2001, and completed my Ph.D. in English at UW-Madison in 2009. As a graduate student I had the opportunity to teach a variety of English and Composition courses, and leveraged that experience to make the transition to teaching Professional Communication in 2008 here at the Wisconsin School of Business.

As a teacher, I focus on student-centered and project-based learning, preferring to provide students with opportunities to write, speak, listen, and respond to others. In the classroom, students should discover and construct as much understanding as possible. I also strive for greater depth in learning, as opposed to covering a lot of material and achieving only a shallow understanding. Finally, I feel that the best thing about meeting together in a classroom is that it provides a communal space for asking questions, solving problems, workshopping writing projects, practicing presentations, discussing issues, and helping each other better understand the material.
