Main Event - Commencement at Camp Randall

Commencement is a ceremony for graduating students and supporters. It is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on May 12, 2018, with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. It is a formal cap and gown ceremony at Camp Randall Stadium. There is no limit to attendees at this event.

Hooding Ceremony

The Hooding Ceremony is a special recognition for masters and doctoral degree candidates for the purpose of acknowledging their scholarly achievement. At the ceremony, each graduate will be acknowledged and invited to the podium, and a faculty member will place the hood over his/her head signifying success in completing the Master of Business Administration degree at the Wisconsin School of Business. All graduates will participate in a processional wearing their academic attire.

The Hooding ceremony is the ceremony where you will be recognized by the Wisconsin School of Business and specifically, the Evening and Executive MBA Program office, for the completion of your degree requirements. The Hooding ceremony and reception which follows is complimentary for each Evening MBA graduate and two (2) guests. For additional guests, adults are $25.00/person and $15.00/ages 6-10; 5 and under are free. There is a limit of 4 total guests due to space constraints.

Application for Degree

In order to have your name printed in the official Class of 2018 Commencement program, you must complete the “Apply to Graduate” application via MyUW no later than March 29, 2019.

If you are planning to complete your graduate degree requirements this spring, you must complete the following tasks:

  1. Apply to Graduate
    You need to “apply to graduate” via your Student Center (located under My Academics). Click here for instructions.
    NOTE: Evening & Executive MBA Program Staff (Lynn Snyder and Tammy Weisensel) will submit your degree clearance form to the Graduate School once you have applied to graduate.
  2. Update your commencement plans
    The Commencement ceremony is held in May. The deadline to have your name appear in the spring commencement program is March 29, 2019.
  3. Create/Update Mailing Address
    Diplomas are mailed approximately 8 weeks after degree conferral. The degree conferral date this spring is May 12, 2019.

Domestic Students

Your diploma will be mailed to your HOME address. If you wish to have your diploma sent to another address, you can create a DIPLOMA address in your Student Center.

International Students

You must create a DIPLOMA address in the Student Center. You can add a new address or edit an existing address and save it as your diploma address by checking the DIPLOMA box in the Address Types Box. If you do not create a diploma address, your diploma will be held in the Office of the Registrar and will not be mailed.

Cap and Gown

We will be renting a gown, hood, and cap on your behalf. You may keep the cap and tassel, but the gown and hood should be returned to University Book Store personnel, who will be stationed in Camp Randall Stadium immediately following the commencement ceremonies or to the University Book Store at 711 State Street on the Monday following the ceremony. Please complete this survey by March 1, 2019 to reserve your graduation regalia (aka cap and gown and academic hood).

How will I get my red diploma cover?

Diploma covers will be distributed at the Hooding ceremony you will attend prior to commencement on May 12, 2018. Students who do not plan to attend the hooding ceremony, can pick up a diploma cover from the Evening & Executive MBA Program office.

Who is the keynote speaker?

Class Officers from the undergraduate graduating class are charged by the Chancellor each year to identify a commencement keynote speaker. Find out who this year's commencement keynote speaker is.

Why attend this ceremony if students aren’t crossing a stage?

This event celebrates the class of 2019 by offering graduates the opportunity to come together in one place. Graduates will be recognized by program, and the official conferring of degrees by Chancellor Blank will take place. In addition you will receive a special alumni crest pin for attending this ceremony.

How do I confirm that I have completed my degree requirements?

Visit the Evening & Executive MBA program staff in 2310 Grainger Hall if you have any questions about meeting the degree requirements and confirming you have met these requirements. Evening & Executive MBA Program Staff (Lynn Snyder and Matt Burnette) will submit your degree clearance form to the Graduate School once you have applied to graduate.
