Greetings and Happy New Year!
All of us in the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship hope you had a wonderful and relaxing holiday season and that 2017 is off to a good start!
This past academic year was an exciting time for us. Highlights from the past year include:
Over 550 attended the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Showcase event sponsored by Paul Reckwerdt & Ellen Rosner;
A record number of MBA students applied for the Fellowship in Enterprise Development Program;
Almost 500 students campuswide attended the Distinguished Entrepreneurs Lunch sponsored by Neider & Boucher S.C.;
Over 100 students attended Partner Up!, a workshop offered each semester that allows students to find members or become members of a future startup team for competitions on campus;
We successfully completed a University level five year review of our Certificates in Entrepreneurship. This is one of the most popular certificates offered on campus at both the graduate and undergraduate level;
Students and alumni continue to enjoy success raising capital with recent WAVE (Weinert Applied Ventures in Entrepreneurship) alumni having raised approximately $10M in capital; WEB (Wisconsin Entrepreneurial Bootcamp) alumni have raised approximately $20M;
Pitchbook ranked schools by venture funding raised by alumni over the past 10 years and the UW undergrads were in in the top 15 worldwide/top 10 for public schools;
Strong interest continues in our courses from across the campus as a record number of students are taking our classes. For example, our Introduction to Entrepreneurial Management course for non-business students, instructor Dan Olszewski had a record 185 students in his class. As a class project they design/sell a t-shirt and create a 2-minute video reflecting on lessons learned. Here is one of the short videos from one of the projects;
The Business & Entrepreneurship (B&E) Clinic has provided free business advice and help to over 120 Wisconsin-based companies since its inception;
Our programs that we operate outside the classroom greatly enhance the student experience. These programs are only possible because of your continued involvement and support. On behalf of the students, I thank you for investing in them.
