Entrepreneurship in Madison is booming. A quick skim of headlines indicates that well over $50 million in venture capital has been raised by Madison based startup companies in just the past six months. The top ranked gener8tor business accelerator reported that in the past four years alumni of the program have raised over $100 million in capital. The annual calendar is full of activities including the Early Stage Symposium, Forward Tech Festival, and events hosted by a variety of groups including Starting Block and Capital Entrepreneurs. A new hub of rapidly growing companies—316 West Washington—arrived on the scene this summer.
At the Center, we continue to work to increase access to entrepreneurship education and mentoring—our enrollments in our for-credit courses are on track to exceed 1,400 students this year. Our courses include a mixture of applied hands-on learning such as company building and selling, and more formalized business training. Many of the rapidly growing startups in the city have some connection to one of our programs or courses.
Our initiatives that are designed to involve our alumni as mentors and teachers are in full swing. The Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Showcase was attended by over 550 people. Our lunch series with distinguished entrepreneurs draws between 20-40 students weekly. Our MBA fellows recently toured alumni startups in 316 West Washington. Alumni and friends continue to speak in our classes, the Entrepreneurial Residential Learning Community, and mentor our students.
Thank you for your support. So many of you volunteer your time to help our students and we appreciate your donations to fund our programs. Your investments are creating new opportunities for our students every day. As always, if you have any updates, suggestions, questions, comments, or concerns, please email me at email@example.com.
