Wisconsin Entrepreneurial Bootcamp (WEB) 2017

Thursday, July 6, 2017

WEB is an intensive hands-on week of learning focused on technology entrepreneurship and exploring how business startups can create both economic and social value. The program celebrated its 10th anniversary in June (WEB started in 2007) and had over 65 graduate students from across campus representing over 40 different majors. The event also provided a great opportunity for returning WEB alumni to talk about their careers and the key lessons they have learned.

Throughout the program, students learn key entrepreneurial concepts and tools to assess product ideas, form and fund a technology-based startup, and understand and use financial analysis. Case analyses, a site visit to a local business, networking social events, and expert panels help students make links between concepts and practice. The program exposes students to the many resources available in Madison and on campus and helps them learn how to use those resources effectively.

John Morgridge, UW alum and chairman emeritus of Cisco Systems, joined faculty and industry experts in working with University of Wisconsin-Madison students during the week. In addition to Wisconsin School of Business faculty teaching many of the classes, we included many successful entrepreneurs, investors and alumni as instructors. Community members play a key role in panel and case discussions throughout the week.

At the community dinner on Thursday night at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, we honored John Morgridge with a surprise tribute gift: $1.5M endowment named for Morgridge that will permanently fund the program. The new name of the program will be Morgridge Entrepreneurial Bootcamp (MEB). Over 50 individuals, organizations and alumni made donations to support the program and thank the Morgridges for all they have done for the UW and Wisconsin. John was instrumental in working with UW faculty and WARF in developing the bootcamp and he has been an instructor since the beginning.

Another successful boot camp has been completed and we thank John & Tashia Morgridge for their support of WEB over the years. In 2018, we look forward to offering MEB! Read More
