CFIB is currently at 100% placement for first years who have found summer internships! A handful of students are interning at Investment Banking firms in Chicago and Minneapolis, FP&A roles with SC Johnson, Emmerson Electric, Organic Valley and Hannaford Supermarket. A look at our MBA program as a whole when it comes to placement looks like the following; 67% placed for full-time (compared to 54% this time last year) and 90% for internships (compared to 94% this time last year).


David Klante gives presentation for Integrated Company Analysis

The first-year, full-time MBA students recently completed their team projects and presented their work to the FT MBA core faculty as part of this year’s ‘Integrated Company Analysis’ (ICA) challenge provided by Medtronic – a global leader in medical technology, services, and solutions. Four teams advanced as finalists by faculty to present to Medtronic representatives here and across the globe. Two of our students Michael Hilfilker and David Klante were members of the final four teams and expressed how this real business challenge was a valuable learning experience.


The Nicholas Center will host their Biannual Alumni Event in tandem with our annual Advisory Board Meeting on Friday, October 19, 2018.

The day will start with breakfast and kick off by guest Barry Gerhart, interim Albert O. Nicholas Dean at the Wisconsin School of Business. Center Director Brad Chandler will speak about new Center initiatives and our exciting future.

New York Stock Exchange trip

“The class trip to NYC was a phenomenal experience to network, learn, and build closer relationships with classmates and alumni. Our Nicholas Center staff did a great job organizing and I would highly recommend this trip to future students.” – Michael Hilfiker

In the spring, the Nicholas Center students and staff had the opportunity to travel to Manhattan and experience the center of American finance. Our corporate hosts included; Goldman Sachs, FTI Consulting, J.C Flowers & Inc. and Ernst & Young, who arranged info sessions and tours with our group. Students were excited to meet influential members of these financial services companies, ask questions and speak to recruiters.

Spring 2018 project logos

Brad continued our goal of upgrading the quality of the project work (our goal is to have consultant quality deliverables) and had a fantastic roster of clients and projects. The following is a list of consulting projects the students worked on during spring semester. The CFIB incoming class of 13 students consists of; three international students from Taiwan, Vietnam and China, four from Wisconsin and five out-of-state (Texas, Iowa, Utah & Michigan). Our gender breakdown has three women (increase from last year) and ten men. This group has varied work experience with the following companies: Deloitte, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Dell, a venture capital group and investment bank.

ACG Team 2018

CFIB students, Ryles Kjellsen, Mary Parmeter and Jacob Smith emerged the victors after competing against Marquette University and UW-Milwaukee in the final round of the ACG Cup Competition. The “Dream Team” as this group called themselves, rose to the top after an evening of high-level finance presentations.

Ribbon cutting in front of Finance and Analytics Lab

A Ribbon Cutting ceremony took place before finals week for the new Learning Commons, a 35,000 square-foot renovation that took 255 days from start to finish. Generous gifts from donors made this momentous project a reality giving students an edge to current technologies and datasets, library resources and a variety of spaces to study, connect and collaborate.
