Global Real Estate Markets 2013

November 22, 2013| New York Stock Exchange, New York, NY

While a robust recovery from the global financial crisis remains elusive and the world is undergoing changes in political leadership at the highest levels, real estate investors and developers are finding new opportunities amid the global uncertainty. Learn how the leaders and visionaries in the real estate industry view the changing landscape and plan to take advantage of these opportunities.

You will hear from a range of leading investors, developers, and strategists exploring emerging trends in investment and capital flows across the globe, new opportunities for investments in the United States and abroad, and the changing dynamics of global cities. Bloomberg News Anchor Carol Massar will lead the keynote interview and provide media coverage of the event.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a long and honored tradition of excellence in education and research in the discipline of real estate and urban land economics. Through events like this conference, the James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate is setting the standard for real estate in the new millennium. We are proud to partner again with Toll Brothers in hosting the 2013 Global Real Estate Markets Conference.

THE 2013 CONFERENCE WILL FEATURE THE FOLLOWING PANEL DISCUSSIONS:

  • The Global User: How Tenants are Selecting Sites in the 21st Century
The dynamics behind selecting sites in the key locations for global trade and commerce are becoming increasingly complex. Demographics, infrastructure, access to skilled labor, technological expertise, as well as occupancy cast considerations, involve significant planning between tenant, developer, financers, and government entities. With many new regions of the world “in the game,” the competition has increased, as has the need for expertise. Susan Chapman moderates a discussion with two global users on the considerations involved in optimal site selection.
  • Bridging the Cultural Gap: How to Thrive, Not Just Survive in the Global Marketplace
A recent study published by the Economist Intelligence Business Unit business found that leaders in 68 countries identified creating effective global leaders as their greatest management challenge for this century. In this lively session, you’ll learn how cultural competency can be the difference between success and failure when navigating global business. And you’ll walk away with practical panelist tips and best practices so you can get better results faster worldwide.
  • The Panama Canal Project - Transforming Global Logistics
The Panama Canal expansion project is nearing completion, with both the Atlantic and Pacific channels deepened and expanded and the construction of a third line of traffic that will double the channel’s capacity. This project will have an important impact on world maritime trade, and has already set in motion billions of dollars of U.S. infrastructure spending on Pacific, Gulf, and Atlantic Ocean seaports. The real estate implications of the canal’s expansion will likely impact port locations for years to come. Mr. Roy will discuss the canal’s challenges and aspirations for the future.
  • Global Investment Opportunities:  You Make the Call!
Around the world, transaction volume is growing, reflecting the post-crisis recovery, but opportunities – and risks – vary greatly from country to country.  In this session, investors from three very different regions of the world will provide insight as to how they view those opportunities and risks.  Following the individual presentations, attendees will be asked to act as an investment committee and select the country which offers the most attractive risk-adjusted return.
