MBA New Glarus Brewery

As we wrapped up the first week of classes this semester, students from the Center for Brand and Product Management and the A.C. Nielsen Center for Market Research boarded a plane bound for Cincinnati, OH. Thanks to Procter & Gamble, the CBPM first year students had the opportunity to get some hands on experience with finding consumer insights and building products to solve consumer problems.

This year, the Wisconsin School of Business sent a team to compete in the University of Notre Dame’s Diversity Case Competition, which had an emphasis on Gender Dynamics within the consulting industry – sponsored by Ernst & Young. The Wisconsin MBA team, appropriately named Femmes du Monde, consisted of 4 MBA students: Abena Afriyie (CBPM Class of 2015), Ridhima Choubey (OTM Class of 2016), Kelly Goldthorpe (ACN Class of 2015), and Jackie Swoyer (CBPM Class of 2016). The team was given one week to build a recruitment strategy to increase the pipeline of women in a global consulting firm, specifically targeting MBAs, Veterans, and senior management-level women.

There are many signs that the Fall season has arrived; the leaves changing, the beginning of football season, pumpkin flavored everything, classes starting, and of course, the annual GBA Golf Outing! This last September students from all specializations of the Wisconsin MBA had the opportunity to hit the links and network with alumni from some amazing recruiting companies. Many industries were present, with representatives from Kimberly-Clark, SC Johnson, Target, Ecolab, Kraft-Oscar Mayer, Hollister Healthcare, and R.W. Baird.

Don’t worry, this is not what I thought about the board meeting, but rather what I was afraid the board members would think of me! As a first-year, I was both excited and extremely nervous about my first board meeting. I was thrilled to talk with some of the best in our industry and to hear about the second-years’ internships. However, I couldn’t help but be a little nervous, because I have so much to learn about brand and our board members are geniuses when it comes to brand.
