Kristin BranchDecember greetings friends & family of the A.C. Nielsen Center!

It is that time of the year where the semester draws to a close, we spend more time with family and loved ones and often give thanks to all of good things in life. As I reflect on 2016, I continue to be amazed at all of the good things here at the A.C. Nielsen Center and our community.

  • A fantastic FULL fall semester: This semester we visited both General Mills and Target on a field trip with the Center for Brand & Product Management. The chance to see two best-in-class examples of our industry partners demonstrates our applied learning and desire to inspire students through examples of their future careers.
  • An External Advisory Board meeting that brought a record number of EAB members back to campus to advise the Center on industry issues as well as mentor and inspire our student throughout the 24-hour experience.
  • A diverse set of companies recruiting our students for both internships and full-time positions. New recruiting companies this year included Adobe, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, and Ocean Spray, to name a few. Plus we tried a new ‘Interviewing Blitz’ for the Friday afternoon of the EAB meeting so more board representatives from companies like Bain & Co, Unliever, Beam Suntory and others could meet with our students to start a recruiting relationship.
  • The highest number of students in the A.C. Nielsen Center in recent history! With 28 current students the culture and community in the A.C. Nielsen Center remains as tight as warm as it has been in previous years with smaller classes. The strong community of the A.C. Nielsen Center is something our students and staff specifically foster and is a source of pride.
  • The A.C. Nielsen Center and two of our students specifically got great exposure by speaking at The Market Research Event conference in October earlier this year. A big thank you to Stacey Symonds for requesting the speaking spot to highlight how the UW and the A.C. Nielsen Center students can partner with firms like Orbitz to do primary research in a good win-win-win for all involved.

2017 will bring even more exciting events. Most notably is that we are hosting our biennial Summit on Friday, April 28th! We hope you can join us for this alumni reunion and industry learning event. We are working on a great lineup of speakers, discussion topics and workshop sessions to make for a full day of learning and connecting.

I’d like to ask you to consider giving back to the WSB and the A.C. Nielsen Center in your 2016 charitable giving efforts. As you may know, the gift from the Nielsen family only covers about 40% of our annual operating budget so gifts to the Center really do directly fund student scholarship, Center learning experiences and all that we do. So even if the gift pays for one of those free meals or beverages you got during school or as big as one of your semester’s scholarships, it all helps us continue to provide for this year’s and future A.C. Nielsen Center students.

We also appreciate your gift of time – please let us know if you want to speak in a class, mentor or hire a student or recommend a prospective student. And finally – personally I hope you know you are always welcome to email or call me – connecting with you is always a highlight.

Enjoy the fall newsletter and the photo gallery cheers to all that 2017 will bring!

The A.C. Nielsen Center is a special place. We are grateful for your being a part of our family.

All my best to you and yours,
