Evaluate the market for a small, highly portable, inexpensive, but sophisticated purpose-specific ultrasound-based device for noninvasive determination of risk for poor pregnancy outcome. The device may be used by personnel who may or may not be skilled in obstetrics, but are untrained in medical imaging/diagnostics to obtain critical obstetrical information rapidly at the point of care. Successful creation and distribution of such a device would save the lives of mothers and babies in both high- and low-income countries. Evaluate commercial opportunities for this type of device and potential risk associated with development.
