Berenice RodriguezStrategic Human Resource Management
Berenice Rodriguez graduated from Wellesley College in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Italian Studies. Upon graduation, she joined the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers’(SHPE) foundation managing scholarship, internship, and professional development opportunities for higher education SHPE chapters all over the country. After a year of service and interest in working more closely with students one-on-one, Berenice joined Dallas-based Education is Freedom, which assists helps primarily underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation students get into college. During this time, Berenice’s curiosity grew in understanding the emotional growth of students in higher education settings especially for students who came from underrepresented communities. As a result, she began a counseling master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. After career counseling experiences in large higher education institutions and in community college settings, Berenice joined the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) in 2013 as a Career Counselor. At UHCL, she brought her knowledge and skills in understanding the dynamics of multiculturalism in higher education while providing students with up to date and pertinent knowledge on preparing themselves for the job market after their studies. From her work with UHCL, Berenice was interested in leadership positions through a local professional organization – Houston Area Consortium of Career Centers (HACCC), where she is currently President. Through HACCC, Berenice oversees the operations of an annual job fair and professional conference, bringing together 13 universities’ career staff to share best practices in career development and employer relations, ultimately impacting approximately 130,000 students. From her work with HACCC, she has honed her skills in managing complex relationships, collaborating across diverse institutions, and understanding student and employer needs in job seeking and hiring. 

While not working, Berenice enjoys travel, foodie culture, dance fitness classes, volunteering, and Astros baseball games. Berenice initially discovered her passion for understanding the student experience through her non-profit and higher education work, and looks forward to growing her general business knowledge. She is excited to join the Wisconsin School of Business with a focus in Strategic Human Resource Management to learn to make meaningful impact on the candidate experience, organizational retention, training, and change impacting the bottom line.
