Jiawei BeiApplied Security Analysis

Jiawei Bei is a second-year student in the MS in Finance – Applied Security Analysis Program (ASAP) with the Hawk Center for Investment Analysis.

This past summer Jiawei interned at two hedge funds in New York City – Phoenix Investment Advisor and Gotham City Research. Phoenix focuses on distressed investing and Gotham City Research focuses on due-diligence based short-selling. He conducted in-depth fundamental research on many names in the freight brokerage, oil & gas, radio and consumer/retail industries during his internships. He also worked on more macro-focused projects such as emerging market assets and performance of macro hedge funds.

During the previous summer, Jiawei worked at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board as a portfolio and market data analyst intern, reporting directly to the managing director of public equities. In this role, he focused on portfolio analysis, screen designing as well as equity research.

Born and raised in China, Jiawei also spent 4 years in Singapore before coming to Wisconsin for college.

Jiawei has passed the CFA Level I exam and is planning to take level II in June 2019.
