Ben BlakeApplied Security Analysis

Ben is currently a second-year MS student on the BadgerFund within the Applied Security Analysis graduate program, having graduated with BBAs in Finance, Investment, and Banking & International Business (Asia track) in May of 2018.

This past summer, Ben worked as an equity research intern for Associated Bank in the Twin-Cities area, covering the consumer discretionary and consumer staples sectors. Ben was tasked with several projects throughout his time at Associated Bank, including procuring an industry research report focusing on the future risk that the rise of eCommerce poses to traditional retailers, as well as generating new investment ideas for the research team.

During the summer of 2017, Ben worked as an investment research intern at Geneva Capital Management in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was responsible for conducting fundamental research on new investment ideas and providing updated investment reports on current holdings in the firms Small-Cap, Mid-Cap, and All-Cap strategies.

Prior to that, Ben spent a summer working as a marketing intern at Harris Associates in Chicago, Illinois. There he worked closely with the marketing and client relation teams while developing a comprehensive understanding of the mutual fund industry, and a strong interest in investment research. Also during his time as an undergraduate student, Ben spent the summer after his sophomore year in Tianjin, China, where he participated in the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Intensive Chinese Language Learning Program. Additionally, during the spring semester of his junior year, Ben participated in a business school exchange program and studied at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Ben’s hobbies include playing basketball, fantasy sports, and spending time on the lake with friends and family. 

Ben passed the CFA level I exam in June of 2018.
