Michael WareckiApplied Security Analysis

Mike Warecki is a 2019 MBA candidate in the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Applied Security Analysis Program. While in school, Mike is also a Teaching Assistant for an undergraduate course in introductory finance. He graduated from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in 2014 with a BSB in Finance and Marketing.

This past summer, Mike had the exciting opportunity to intern at Heartland Advisors in Milwaukee, WI. As a generalist, Mike worked on twenty-six companies in nine sectors and was the first intern to independently pitch an idea into a fund.

Previously, Mike started his career in a rotational program at Cargill where he gained exposure to trading commodities in addition to managing inventory and logistics for several plants. Eager to learn more about financial markets, Mike worked as a Mutual Funds Administrator at U.S. Bancorp Fund Services and was responsible for financial reporting, compliance testing, distributions and analyzing expenses for eight mutual funds in addition to ad hoc requests of the advisor. This work exposed him to a variety of mutual fund strategies containing equity, fixed income and alternative investments. Mike also gained experience in launching new mutual fund operations and servicing advisors.

Mike has always been fascinated with investing and researching new companies for his portfolio. He passed the CFA Level II exam in June 2018 and intends to sit for the Level III exam.

Outside of work and school, Mike is passionate about outdoor adventure, travel and developing his skills as an investor.
