Joshua FirestoneStrategic Human Resource Management

Joshua Firestone graduated in 2008 from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Finance & Accounting. Following graduation, he spent a year interning in Maui, then moved to Colorado to pursue graduate studies. In 2012, he began a six-year career at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he advanced through multiple roles and gained valuable experience in budget management, personnel issues, and leadership. In his first role as an Accounting Technician he won a campus efficiency award for creating a series of online training videos. He was also instrumental in the implementation of paperless practices for his department and their customers. Seeking out supervisory and budget management experience, he took a position as a department Office Manager. In this role, he increased turnaround time for faculty and student expense reports, oversaw the implementation of a new department website, and worked with the unit staff to promote professional development. In Joshua’s most recent role, he used his experiences in fiscal management and leadership initiatives to formalize the department budget, creating individual professional development accounts and allocating funds for department programs.

Community involvement is an important activity to Joshua and he spent five years volunteering at CU as a Staff Council representative, acting as both Treasurer and chairing a committee. He also spent two years serving on his HOA’s Board of Directors. In his free time he enjoys playing soccer with his friends, hiking, playing music, reading, and, when time allows, going on surf trips. Because of his many years working in higher education, he is passionate about leading at these institutions and helping to create greater effectiveness, particularly through succession planning and compensation management. For these reasons, he is excited to pursue his MBA at the University of Wisconsin School of Business and specialize in Strategic Human Resources Management where he hopes to gain the skills necessary to effectively lead large organizations.
