Biography
Joey HoffmannApplied Security Analysis

Joey Hoffmann is excited to continue his education at the Wisconsin School of Business as a first-year student in the Applied Securities Analysis Program. Growing up in Milwaukee, WI, Joey always had an interest in the finance industry. Attending the Wisconsin School of Business for his undergraduate degree and pursuing a master’s in finance seemed like a natural fit for him.

Joey gained experience in the institutional asset management field after working at the Rock Creek Group in Washington, DC. While there he learned the basics of institutional investing by helping to cover the firm’s activist hedge fund universe. He also assisted with building a client facing database to ease the investment process for the fund’s investors.

Most recently, Joey interned with the Hedge Funds Alpha team at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board in Madison, WI. There he helped to monitor and expand the pension plan’s hedge fund portfolio to add alpha to the overall plan. He also gained a better perspective from an institutional investor’s viewpoint of what to look for in funds and where managers can add alpha to a portfolio.

Joey hopes to lever his background in institutional asset management, as well as coursework and experiences with fundamental equity investing, to gain a full-time role upon completion of the MS program. He looks forward to starting his career off as an analyst and being able to add value where he can.
