Biography
Donovan WalkerBrand and Product Management

Donovan Walker comes to the Center for Brand and Product Management with widespread global experience in a variety of industries and locations. After graduating from San Francisco State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies, he began working as a retail sales associate with Ed Hardy, an international retailer that, at the time had over twenty locations worldwide. Within six months, he was promoted to Assistant Manager and shortly thereafter, was recruited to serve as the Store Manager responsible for launching a new location. His first-hand experience with Ed Hardy and its’ roller-coaster branding sparked his interest in marketing. After several years with Ed Hardy, Donovan’s life-long goal of serving in the Peace Corps became a reality, and though he was advancing quickly within management, his passion for becoming a global citizen could not be deterred. He relocated to South Africa, where he worked on cross-functional teams to develop and implement awareness campaigns regarding children’s rights, HIV/AIDS, and drug abuse. Managing initiatives in a poverty stricken community, afflicted by the endemic of HIV/AIDS, all while learning to work and communicate in the isiZulu language, he learned how to self-manage, self-start, and celebrate small successes.

Donovan’s passion for travel and global competency then led him to South Korea, where he worked as an English Instructor with Chungdahm Learning, the highest ranked private academy in Daegu. Outside of his teaching responsibilities, he collaborated with administrators and co-workers to revamp and modernize the curriculum to increase matriculation rates. Following this role, Donovan decided to gain more worldly experience by traveling throughout Southeast Asia, South America, and Australia, on his own. During his travels he was able to connect and work with people of all walks of life, and experienced daily commerce across the globe. He thinks culture plays a huge factor in how business is conducted globally and looks forward to bringing his unique, global perspective into the Wisconsin School of Business.

Outside of work, Donovan enjoys going to live sporting events, snowboarding, and nearly any outdoor activity. He recently started a non-profit, The WorldWalker Foundation, along with his brother, Devin, a fellow badger alumni, to help African-American youth explore themselves and the world through travel. He is excited to embark on his MBA journey, establishing new skill-sets, while fine-tuning his prowess in general management.
