Carey L. Bongard is Executive VP, Human Resources & Organizational Development, for Assurant, Inc., and is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Her leadership responsibilities include talent acquisition, learning and development, talent management and inclusion. Carey began her career with Assurant in 1983. Between 1983 and 2000, she held management roles in several areas including underwriting, compliance, human resources, training, corporate communication, and marketing communication. From 2000 to 2004, she was president of a leadership development and communications consulting firm.

In May 2004, Carey rejoined the company as vice president, Talent Management for Assurant Health. In a dual role, she was also a member of Assurant’s executive development team, co-designing and co-facilitating a number of enterprise-wide leadership programs for high potential leaders and executives. Carey was named vice president, Talent Management for Assurant in April 2007. In addition to continuing to design and deliver executive development programs, she had responsibility for Assurant’s talent acquisition, broad-based compensation, and benefits administration functions.

Carey was appointed executive vice president, Human Resources, Organizational Development and Communications for Assurant Solutions in 2011. Her leadership responsibilities included global human resources, organizational development, and corporate and marketing communications. She assumed her current position in January 2016.

Carey is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree and Risk & Insurance major. She earned her master’s degree in professional development and executive coaching from Middlesex University, London. Carey has been a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Wisconsin School of Business since October 2014. She is a mentor for Atlanta Tech Village, a collaborative community for start-ups.
