Center for International Business Education & Research

Created in 1998 through a U.S. Department of Education grant, the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a unique resource for U.S. businesses and educational institutions. CIBER works with strategic partners on campus, across the country, and around the world to develop, deliver, and support a range of programs that further the international expertise of students, faculty, and business professionals.

Recipient of 2012 Donald C. Leidel International Business Scholarship to attend Middle East Institute conference.

“The conference allowed me to get out of the classroom and look up from the textbook to learn what current experts in the region had to say about the Middle East. My favorite part was an interview with former Ambassador Ryan Crocker. His in-depth assessments an on-the-ground experience of the current situation in Afghanistan made his comments a fresh relief from the typical news media reports about the area.”

“The FDIB Vietnam trip was one of the best professional experiences of my career. It provided a unique and enjoyable opportunity to learn about the economic, political, and cultural context of Vietnam and the unique challenges that organizations face in doing business in Vietnam. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet faculty from other institutions and draw on their perspectives in learning about and understanding the Vietnam context.”

"The site visits on the FDIB to Indonesia were especially good. We were exposed to a variety of organizations, including the US Consulate, a local private university, and Indonesian multinational conglomerates, as well as small family-owned businesses. As expected, we saw some factories that would not meet OSHA's standards, but we also visited some local businesses with very progressive human resource practices, such as incentives for quitting smoking and losing weight."
