The Wisconsin BBA is primarily a Pre-Business Admission program.  Most students are admitted to the University as Pre-Business majors and complete a one-year preparatory curriculum. So, becoming a Business major actually consists of two admission processes—first to the University, then to the Wisconsin School of Business itself.

In the spring semester of their first year, students become eligible for admission to the business school. Successful applicants become Business majors the following fall. Approximately 60 percent of students who apply are accepted.

Each year, though, the Wisconsin School of Business does admit a select group of incoming first-year students as Business majors. This is an invitation-only process known as the Wisconsin BBA Direct Admit Program.

Transfer students are admitted based on when and from which institutions they are transferring. Please select the Transfer Student tab for more specific to your situation.

As part of your Wisconsin BBA application, the admissions committee will be reviewing and assessing many different factors related to your education and involvement.  Of the considered components, the following three factors will be reviewed as part of your application:

Pre-Business GPA

This GPA is made up of the four required pre-business courses listed under Curriculum & Degree Requirements

Cumulative GPA

This GPA reflects all courses taken at UW-Madison, counting for GPA credit.
**Please note:  All applicants that still qualify under Junior Requirements will have their Bus/Econ GPA, and cumulative GPAs assessed.

Resume Upload

You, the applicant will be responsible for providing the admissions committee with a copy of your current resume (uploaded to the online application).  Resume templates, guidelines and expectations for this resume are provided here.  It is strongly suggested that the applicant read and follow the committee’s expectations for resume development.

The applicant will be asked to submit an essay (500 word maximum) answering a specific prompt posted to the on-line application.  Submitting this essay will consist of copying and pasting from a word document to a text box in the on-line application.  Therefore, applicants are strongly encouraged to start working on this essay early in the application process and have it reviewed for errors or edits.  Wisconsin BBA staff and faculty are not able to review the essay(s).  The second essay is optional with a  250 word max.  The purpose of this optional essay is to provide the committee with extenuating circumstances the committee may not be aware of from the application.  This optional essay is NOT intended for personal pleas of admission.

Once admitted to the Wisconsin School of Business as majors, students continue on to complete business preparatory, core, major, and breadth requirements—as well as completing remaining liberal studies coursework. Transfer students follow business school requirements according to the term in which they begin.
