The Wisconsin MBA distinguishes itself through focused areas of study, one-on-one attention, and opportunities to practice classroom material through partnerships with business, non-profit, and municipal organizations. These applied projects allow our students to develop experience while also helping organizations advance their mission. Recent examples include:

  • Conducting an enterprise risk management audit of a local biotech firm, yielding a series of recommendations for managing risk moving forward as a public company. Several of our recommendations have been borne out as critical for the company since the project was completed.
  • Evaluating overall risks for a large assisted-living facility, providing advice regarding its insurance coverage, loss control techniques, and other important risk management endeavors.
  • Working with American Family Insurance Company's risk manager to evaluate the insurer's risk-management processes, with recommendations for continuing to be on the forefront of such efforts.
  • Analyzing risks for Lands’ End associated with e-commerce, and developing a plan to deal with a variety of possible outcomes, including breach of customer security, shutdown of sales capabilities due to network issues, and training of customer service representatives.
  • Completing a comprehensive risk management and employee benefits audit for the East Madison Community Center, a local non-profit designed to offer cradle to grave support to families in lower incomes. Recommendations yielded significant cost savings and improved safety, particularly among the youth in the neighborhood.
