A bachelor’s degree from an approved (accredited) institution. International applicants must have a degree comparable to an approved U.S. bachelor’s degree. You are able to submit your application with unofficial transcripts but certified copies of transcripts from the institution where the degree was conferred, are required for all admitted students.
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution is required. International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.

A minimum of two years of post-undergraduate professional work experience is required. Only exceptional candidates with limited professional work experience may be considered.
A Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) score taken within five years of the term for which you are applying. Please direct the testing service to forward your test results to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (institution code: 79K-2S-72).
The Graduate Record Examination will also be accepted. Please direct the testing service to forward your test results to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. (Institution Code: 1846)
Admission interviews are by invitation only once you have submitted a completed application, and the interview will be conducted either in-person, by phone or video. If you would like to meet with a member of the admissions team to learn more about program, discuss your specific application and ask us questions, you can arrange a time to meet us in person or by phone.
One recommendation is required (two maximum). Recommenders will receive an email link to complete the recommendation; an option is available for the recommender to complete and return a recommendation form. Select recommenders that are qualified to evaluate your potential as a business leader or for management. Your recommenders should have a strong understanding of your abilities along with solid examples of your accomplishments. These individuals may include current or past supervisors or managers, clients or vendors, or individuals from volunteer or community organizations in which you are involved.
Select individuals that will provide detailed information in response to the questions on the recommendation form. Professional recommendations are strongly preferred. Evaluators submitting the recommendation form via email should send to our office at firstname.lastname@example.org .
A one-page resume outlining your academic/personal/professional achievements and business experience. To assist you with your resume preparation, the Wisconsin MBA Career Services Office has provided materials on resume format and guidelines. You may find these resources helpful as you prepare your resume. Please note that we do not require you submit your resume in this format.
We require one essay as part of the application. Along with your transcripts, test scores, work experience, and references, these essays will be a critical part of evaluating you as a candidate for admission.
Fall 2016 Application Cycle Required Essay:
Please explain why you are interested in the Wisconsin MBA, and specifically how the career specialization you are applying to will help you achieve your short-term career goals and impact your long-term career goals.
Fall 2016 Application Cycle Optional Essay:
This essay allows you to communicate additional information about yourself that is not represented in the application you feel would benefit the admissions committee before making a decision. This may include, and is not limited to, leadership opportunities at work or in your community or special interests that may demonstrate professional qualities you would bring to the program or work environment.
You may also use this essay to share with us clarifying information that may help us better understand who you are as a candidate, which is not limited to gaps in employment, undergraduate academic record, professional progression.
Applicants whose native language is not English or whose undergraduate instruction was not in English must complete either the Internet-based (100 or higher) or paper-based (600 or higher) TOEFL. The test must be taken within two years of your intended start term. Please direct the Educational Testing Service to forward your test results to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (institution code: 1846).
Results of the IELTS or PTE (Pearson Test of English institution code: NML-ZH-25) will also be accepted. An IELTS minimum score of 7.5 or higher, or a PTE internet-based score of 73 or higher or paper-based score of 80 or higher are required.
International applicants whose four-year undergraduate degree and/or master’s degree (minimum of eight semesters total) instruction was in English, or who will complete such a degree prior to matriculation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, may request a waiver. To request a waiver for the language test requirement, please select the TOEFL test type in your online application and select “Request a Waiver” for the English proficiency test. We will confirm that English is the language used at the academic institution where your degree was conferred.
There are no School of Business prerequisite courses for students in the MBA program. If you would like to take a course prior to starting your MBA program, we suggest that you consider taking a statistics and/or an economics course. Both courses have proven to be beneficial to incoming students in helping them gain the necessary knowledge to begin the program.
The application fee is $56 for the full-time program. Payment by credit or debit card is available through the online application system. Admissions decisions will not be communicated to the applicant until the application fee has been received.
