Development

They are creative problem solvers with skills in financial and market analysis, an ability to multi-task efficiently, and an ability to work effectively with a variety of partners and stakeholders.

Lending & Financing

Successful lenders and financiers are highly quantitative and analytical. Opportunities exist to specialize by capital type. The state of the current mortgage environment also offers opportunities for independent loan modification experts who work with lenders and borrowers to restructure the terms of a loan.

Asset & Portfolio Management

Asset managers with real estate firms, banks, real estate investment trusts (REITs) or in the real estate department of major corporations have responsibility for multiple properties, advising on the purchase, development and sale of assets. Successful managers need a deep understanding of financial principles and real estate property types.

Real Estate Advisory Services

Real estate advisors play a variety of roles in the development and management of real estate assets--determining the value of a property based on an analysis of property features, comparable developments, and current market conditions; advising on commercial property purchase decisions, tax issues and portfolio valuation. Successful advisers need a strong foundation in the categories of real estate; an understanding of finance, accounting and legal issues; and good interpersonal skills.

Economic Development & Public Policy

Urban economic development brings together developers, investors, residents and politicians to maximize property values, quality of life and community sustainability while minimizing congestion, pollution and other impacts on the environment. Keys to success include an awareness of the many contributors to a real estate project, an understanding of complex issues, a desire to resolve problems and to improve a community.
