On the June 30 broadcast of “8 O’Clock Buzz” on WORT (89.9 FM), Marjorie Rosenberg, professor of actuarial science, risk management, and insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business, offered her expert perspective on the recent Supreme Court decision that upheld the use of tax credits to subsidize health care premiums in federally run exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.

Rosenberg said that leading up to the decision, actuaries were concerned how the decision could affect market stability because the subsidies are critical to the financial soundness of insurance pricing.

“Things would have been a little bit chaotic in terms of pricing had the decision gone the other way,” Rosenberg says. “There was a lot of maneuvering and talk, but it’s something that, luckily, we don’t have to go through.”
