The Wisconsin School of Business has one of the largest and most highly regarded risk management and insurance programs in the country and our actuarial science program was recognized as an inaugural Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries. There are a number of great ways to partner with our department and to connect with our high caliber undergraduate and graduate students. Look below for a list of great opportunities to connect with the Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance program.
Register for the ASRMI Career Fair!
Our annual career fair attracts over 200 undergraduate and graduate students interested in actuarial science and risk management and insurance. If you are interested in hiring our high-caliber students, make sure your organization has a table at this great event! For more information please email Elizabeth Foste or see the career fair website.
Join the Co-Curricular Learning Board (CCLB)!
The goal of the CCLB is to create opportunities for students to gain knowledge and expertise via participation in outside of the classroom activities with companies on the Board. Board member companies are leaders and decision makers from different segments of the risk management and insurance industry. To learn more about the CCLB email Kirk Peter, or check out their website.
- Feedback from CCLB member companies: “Becoming a member of the CCLB has allowed Milliman to increase our level of support for insurance and risk management education and created a higher level of awareness of our organization at UW-Madison. We are proud to be a part of this successful program.”
- Larry Pfannerstil, Consulting Actuary at Milliman
Give a presentation to one of our active student clubs!
- Actuarial Club: The Actuarial Club is the largest student group in the Wisconsin School of business with over 300 members interested in actuarial science careers. Presentations are given throughout the year about new and emerging topics in actuarial science. Company presentations usually last an hour and are typically held in the evenings around 6:00. For more information about the club, visit their website.
- Risk Management and Insurance Society (RMIS): RMIS is the oldest risk management and insurance collegiate society in the country. The club hosts speakers, socials and provides educational opportunities to students outside of the classroom. Company presentations usually last an hour and are held over the lunch hour from 12:15 to 1:00. For more information about the club, visit their website.
Make a contribution to sponsor student scholarships!
Each year we recognize our most talented and outstanding actuarial science and risk management and insurance students with scholarships sponsored by companies and industry groups. Scholarship donors are recognized with the scholarship recipients at our annual spring awards banquet on April 29th, 2011. This is a great way to support some of our department’s most outstanding students. Scholarship donations can be made by contacting Elizabeth Foste.
Partner with our faculty!
Our faculty regularly partner with industry to coordinate opportunities for continuing education or jointly sponsored seminars. Many different formats have been successful in the past. Please email the chair of ASRMI, Mark Browne for more specific information.
