Assistant Professor - Actuarial Science, Risk Management & Insurance

James Guszcza is an assistant professor in Actuarial Science and Risk Management at the Wisconsin School of Business.

Jim joined Deloitte Consulting following graduation, and is now a senior manager specializing in the study of predictive analytics and modeling. Although not an academic these past 11 years, Jim has developed a strong research record, publishing in notable journals such as Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Contingencies, and Physician Insurer.

Jim has been the invited speaker to numerous industry conferences and events over the past decade for the Casualty Actuarial Society, the Society of Actuaries, the General Insurance Pricing Seminar in London, and the ExecuSummit Predictive Modeling/Analytics Series in New York, among others. Additionally, since 2006 he has taught an annual, two day, hands-on, and interactive predictive modeling seminar for the Casualty Actuarial Society, the preeminent professional organization for actuaries. His particular interest is to provide and encourage thought leadership within the actuarial industry, as well as to bring applied and practical experience to the classroom.

Jim promises to offer us a unique opportunity to link practice with scholarship, and will maintain a partial appointment with Deloitte as he makes this transition. His breadth of interests and depth of intellect will add significantly to the school.

Professor Guszcza received his Ph.D. in Philosophy, Statistics, and Physics from the University of Chicago in 1990.
