Morgridge Center Update by Katie Coon

There are only a few weeks left in the semester, but there’s still time to get involved with the Morgridge Center.  Check out these opportunities to be a financial coach or take a service-learning course this fall.

Be a Financial Coach at Dane County Financial Education Center

The Financial CHANGE Program is one of the programs offered by Dane County Extension Financial Education Center. The program provides individuals with support using Coaching, a Hands-on approach, Accountability, Networking, Goal Setting, and Education.

This program matches a “partner” to a trained volunteer “coach” from the community. As a coach, you will not be asked to act as a financial advisor, but you will help your partner stay on top of their financial goals.

If you enjoy motivating people and are interested in helping people reach their goals,
then you can be a coach at Dane County Extension Financial Education Center! For more information visit their website, or contact Sutra Ginder, Volunteer Coordinator at (608) 283-1260.

Register for a Service-Learning Course

Still looking to fill your schedule? Bring your coursework to life by taking a service-learning course!  Service-learning courses integrate community service and course learning objectives. Students get out of the classroom and into the community to volunteer in a setting that uses or applies the knowledge they are learning in class. These courses allow students to relay course information to their service program in a meaningful and memorable method.

There are over 50 service-learning classes offered at UW-Madison, all tailored to different majors. Even business majors can get in on the action with courses like, Systems Thinking and Sustainable Businesses. For more information about the opportunities service-learning offers, click here.
