Morgridge Center Update by Katie Coon

Check out these fun, new volunteer opportunities at the Morgridge Center: Red Cross Public Affairs volunteer and Canstruction Competition volunteer!

Red Cross Public Affairs Volunteer!

The American Red Cross - Badger & South Central Wisconsin Region provides community outreach and education, disaster relief, health and safety training and serves to the Armed Forces to individuals who live and work in South Central Wisconsin. The goal of the Public Affairs Volunteer is to tell the story of American Red Cross disaster relief and inform affected communities about how to obtain Red Cross assistance.

The volunteer would provide the public with timely information regarding Red Cross services following a disaster, communicate with media via press releases (can be done from home or chapter office), conduct interviews on-scene of disaster if media is present & requests a face-to-face interview, coordinate follow-up media interviews with clients, and ensure all Red Cross photography and brand standards are followed including Information Release Forms.

If interested, contact Ann Taff, Volunteer Coordinator, at (608) 232-5822 or via e-mail.

Volunteer at this Year’s “Canstruction” Competition

Canstruction® is a competition where local groups build incredible, highly imaginative structures out of canned goods and packaged food. All food used in the structures will be donated to the Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) Food Pantry. MOM is hosting the event on Thursday, May 3 at KEVA Sports Center in Middleton.

There is still a great need for individual or groups to help unload the food from the trucks from 8 a.m.— 4 p.m. in two hour shifts on Wednesday, May 2. On the day after, May 5, we will also need individuals or large groups of volunteers to help “deconstruct” the structures loading the food onto trucks from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 – 3 p.m.  We need about 50-60 people per shift. For more information on Canstruction, visit http://canstructionmadison.org/.
