BCC Resume & Cover Letter Critique Changes by Kelly Cuene

This fall, the Business Career Center will be improving the way we review and critique student resumes and cover letters. The resume and cover letter reviews will now be conducted in person with a BCC staff member so you can receive immediate feedback rather than wait for one business day.

One of our goals in the BCC is to empower you with the knowledge and understanding of what constitutes an outstanding resume and cover letter that will get you the internship or job you want. With this change, you can have your questions regarding these important job search documents answered and explained by a BCC staff member. This change will replace the 1-day resume/cover letter drop off service.

To implement this change, the BCC will be increasing drop-in advising hours. Beginning on Thursday, September 2nd drop-in advising will be available every day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the academic year. Extended drop-in hours will also be offered the week before the Fall Career and Internship Fair, which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15th

In addition, students may schedule an advising appointment with an advisor. This way, you are able to come to the BCC, meet with a BCC staff member during drop-in advising or through a scheduled appointment with your career advisor to discuss your resume and cover letter in detail to better understand the techniques and rationale we are employing to make your internship and career search documents the best they can be.

The BCC believes that this new in-person service will better serve and educate you on the job search process. We want you to utilize the knowledge and skills you have learned from meeting with your advisor for future job searches, especially once you have graduated and the BCC is no longer available to you. Having obtained this valuable knowledge in your advising appointments thrughout your time in the Wisconsin School of Business will give you a distinct advantage in guiding your career throughout the years.

Please contact the BCC at 608.262.2550 or stop in 3290 Grainger Hall if you have questions. We look forward to working with and educating you on lifelong job search skills and preparing you for a successful future.
