Feminist Author and Blogger to Speak on Campus in April by Kelly Cuene

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month! Events on the UW-Madison campus include a keynote in late April:

Keynote - Jessica Valenti Thursday, April 22 6:45-8:30 pm, Pyle Center 325/326 Jessica Valenti is a feminist writer and blogger. She is the founder and editor of the popular blog and online community, Feministing.com, and the author of three books: Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman’s Guide to Why Feminism MattersHe’s a Stud, She’s a Slut…and 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know, and The Purity Myth: How America’s Obsession with Virginity is Hurting Young Women. She is also editor of the anthology Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape, which was named one of Publishers Weekly’sTop 100 Books of 2009 and won a 2010 Amelia Bloomer award.

Jessica will speak about the issues surrounding sexual assault on college campuses including alcohol, rape culture, barriers to reporting, etc., and the ways in which we can all be empowered to make our campus a safer place to live.
