Data and Social Media Intern – National Center for Media Engagement (NCME) 

NCME serves as a catalyst for community engagement through public media.  A national organization based at UW-Extension in Madison [Old Radio Hall], NCME works closely with NPR and PBS affiliate stations across the nation – as well as with content producers – to help make public media an essential part of community life. 

The Data & Social Media Intern will serve an essential role in our efforts to effectively communicate with stations and research innovative community engagement models.  The position will interface with stations to research contact information, stories and trends in public media. 

Additionally, the intern will assist the Social Media Manager to help communicate with constituents through online social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.  This person will also be charged with researching, presenting and potentially implementing new social media technologies that fit with NCME’s mission of service. 

Knowledge and Skills Required: -Strong communication skills – written and verbal -Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously -Desire to work in a fast-paced environment -Basic computer skills: word processing, data applications, internet 

Knowledge and Skills Preferred: -Data management experience -Strong knowledge of and aptitude for social media -Basic understanding of (or desire to learn more about) public radio and public television 

Area of study preferred: Communication Arts, Journalism, Media, Computer Science, Web

Fundraising/Development/Production Intern – Wisconsin Public Television

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) is a statewide network of six stations.  The flagship station, WHA-TV, is located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.  WPT produces and broadcasts programming as part of the nationwide Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). 

WPT is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Fundraising/Development Intern to support its work in these areas.  Job duties include foundation research to develop prospect lists for the Grants Manager, assist with fundraising and donor events, data entry using the donor database and transcription of videotape for the television production unit. 

Knowledge and skills required: -Ability to communicate effectively: must have demonstrated strong interpersonal, writing and speaking skills -Must possess a track record of good time management, organization skills and ability to do detailed, accurate work; self-directed and able to work independently -Must be outgoing, personable and enjoy interacting with adults -Knowledge and skilled use of Microsoft Office programs and other computer skills, including keyboarding -Mature and discreet about handling confidential information -Some evening hours expected

 Knowledge and skills preferred: -Some experience with fundraising or event management or database management -Previous work experience at a non-profit organization; interest in non-profit management -Understanding of an appreciation for public broadcasting and its audiences
