Morgridge Center Update by Katie Coon

Take a break from studying at get involved with the Morgridge Center!  Highlighted this week: World Languages Day and Progress Through Business.

Volunteer at World Languages Day

World Languages Day 2010 is approaching fast and we need your help! If you have two hours free during the day on Wednesday, November 17th from 7:30am-2pm, we want you to volunteer at WLD 2010. Come help the Language Institute with its biggest outreach event of the year: greet high school students and help guide them through their day as they attend workshops on languages and cultures, and help presenters with various needs, such as audio/visual assistance.

What’s in it for you? It’s a great resume builder, and you will have the privilege of showing off YOUR University and its rich resources in languages and cultures to potential future students. Volunteers are required to attend a short meeting before volunteering or come in for a brief meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator in the Language Institute, located in 1322 Van Hise Hall.

Consider This: Progress Through Business

Progress Through Business addresses the needs of low and moderate-income individuals and communities through a variety of business-based approaches. We help in the creation and growth of companies located in underserved urban and rural communities. We assist employees and firms by improving practices and systems which improve financial stability, and address environmental concerns by working with partners who believe that economic development and sustainability go hand in hand. In essence, we take an integrated approach to addressing the needs of companies and low- and moderate-income people.

The Madison office of Progress Through Business is welcoming volunteers to participate in our free tax preparation and financial aid form assistance program. These services provide substantial value to the communities we work with. We want to help as many families and individuals as possible, and would love to hear from those passionate about contributing to our cause.
