What's it Really Like to Work There? by Kelly Cuene

Newly admitted sophomore business students: Ever wonder what employees in different industries or companies do all day? Curious what a day in the life of an entry-level staff member looks like or where Badger alumni end up?

The Business Career Center's Sophomore Shadow Program will allow you to see, firsthand, what really goes on at some of the nation's top companies. Participants in the Sophomore Shadow Program will shadow professionals for a full day to view different career possibilities and how classroom skills pertain to the workplace.

Who is eligible:

Sophomore students who have been admitted to the Wisconsin School of Business or School of Human Ecology

How to apply:

Sophomore shadow opportunities will be open for application beginning Saturday, October 17, 2009. Qualifying students can apply for up to 15 opportunities. Once the application period closes on November 2, 2009, BuckyNet will match students with ONE shadow opportunity. The more opportunities for which students apply, the higher the likelihood of getting matched. (Note: A match is not guaranteed).

Students will be notified of their match by November 25, 2009. Job shadows will occur during one day over winter break (January 4-15, 2009).

Requirements of participants:

Students who participate in the Sophomore Shadow Program may not withdraw from their assigned job shadow after a match has occurred. This means students must commit to the program before they know where there job shadow will be.

Attendance at a Sophomore Shadow Orientation Session on Monday, November 30 or Tuesday, December 1 is required.

Students must assume all monetary expenses, including travel and lodging (when applicable).

Questions should be directed to the Business Career Center, 3290 Grainger Hall or 608.262.2550.
