Business Badgers Conserve

Earth Week | April 21 - 25

Help us celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22nd in Grainger Hall!

The Wisconsin School of Business will be hosting a week-long celebration in honor of the 44th anniversary of Earth Day. This day was established by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, Denis Hayes, and Pete McCloskey in 1970 as a call to global environmental awareness. We honor this tradition at the Wisconsin School of Business by hosting events all week in partnership with WE Conserve and the Office of Sustainability to raise awareness among our students, faculty, and staff regarding issues such as sustainability, stewardship opportunities, and environmentally-focused partnerships here on campus and in the Madison area. Read here about how UW-Madison is living its legacy of conservation every day.

Below the full list of events that we will be hosting in Grainger Hall, but please check out the Office of Sustainability and WE CONSERVE websites for other events being hosted on campus!

Richard Keller-“Twilight of the Anthropocene? Energy and sustainability in Dubai”

3:00PM-4:00PM | Rm. 3180

Description: Please join us for a talk by Richard Keller. "On Earth Day, one of the more provocative sites we might imagine is the manufactured landscape of Dubai, where the world’s tallest building sits aside an indoor ski area, engineered island gated communities, many of the world’s largest shopping malls, and restaurants with outdoor air conditioning. Yet Dubai, along with other countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council, has begun investing significantly in engineered sustainability as part of a process of planning for a post-oil future. This discussion explores this apparent paradox while posing larger questions about the history of people’s relationship to the natural environment and the goals of contemporary environmentalism."
